Raising a teenage child will absolutely have its ups and downs. And actress and single mom, Jodi Sta. Maria can attest to this. Her son Thirdy is now a teenager and going through and getting past this phase, she knows well that there are certain things he’s currently at, most especially in the aspect of his love life.
Seeing her son grow up to be a man right before her eyes is quite a journey for her. And now that he’s 16 years old (turning 17 soon), the onset of puberty will surely bring new feelings for him. She, as his mother and a graduate of Psychology, surely does have a broader understanding of these things in her son.
She would also know how to handle the new feelings of uncertainty for adolescents. And as much as we all know, apart from finding out the person they want to be and discovering a discourse in their lives, among the crucial part, is their love life.
They are too young for this but this is all part of growing up and this is normal. As for Jodi, how does she handles talks about this with her son?
She tries hard for their relationship to be open but she is also aware that there will be things her son would keep from her. In cases like this, she does not impose something strictly on him. She lets him and would always just ask questions non-answerable by “yes” or “no”.
Her type of questions always demands him to expound or explain. She makes sure her questions will naturally let him tell stories to her because this way, she’s able to connect with him.
“I also try to ask him to invite his friends over so I get to meet them. So that makikita mo yung sphere of influence na meron ang anak mo. Importante yun,” she added.
