Walden Bello slams the BBM-Sara tandem
Vice Presidential aspirant Walden Bello said that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) must penalize the BBM-Sara tandem for skipping the debate organized by the poll body.
During the CNN Philippines vice presidential debate, Bello also attacked Mayor Sara Duterte for refusing to attend the debate. In her previous interview, the presidential daughter said that she will continue campaigning without joining debates.
This is also the stand of her running mate former Senator Bongbong Marcos who said that questions in debates are just repetitions. In debates organized by Comelec, the BBM-Sara tandem is also absent.
In line with this, based on the report from Inquirer, Walden Bello said that the UniTeam heads should be punished. “The Comelec should do something about this. Maaari ba, can you penalize these two people, Marcos and Sara Duterte for not showing themselves up to Filipino people with their programs?” he said.
For Bello, the penalty that the Comelec imposed for non-attendees is weak. The poll body stated that those who will not attend the debates will not be allowed to air their political advertisements on the e-rally platform.
He also stressed that the poll body must impose stronger penalties and the absence of the two survey leaders is “undemocratic”. “I am tempted to walk out right now. Because, precisely, we’re making fools of ourselves without this person who’s just clapping up there,” Bello said.
For him, this is a big insult. “You can penalize these two jokers, Marcos and Duterte, for not showing up, they are spitting in the face of the Filipino people. I’m really so pissed off that these two jokers are not here. Duwag sila,” he said against the BBM-Sara tandem.
Other vice presidential candidates who joined the Comelec debate also criticized the absence of Mayor Sara Duterte.
