Pres. Duterte Speaks on Unvaccinated Filipinos amid COVID-19 Surge

DUTERTE – Amid a new surge in the COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte issued a warning to unvaccinated individuals.

The cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines is on an upward trend again. A spike was really expected following the holiday season wherein a lot of people went out in preparation for the family events. To fight the spread of the virus, Metro Manila was placed under Alert Level 3.

The capital region is under Alert Level 3 from January 3 to January 15, 2022. Several local government units decided to re-impose curfew and stricter restrictions.

Furthermore, the mayors in Metro Manila also agreed to limit the movements of unvaccinated individuals amid the Alert Level 3 implementation. A lot of Filipinos have yet to get their jabs.

Recently, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte issued a warning to unvaccinated Filipinos. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the 76-year-old Chief Executive warned the unvaccinated individuals that the government will not help them once they got infected with COVID-19.

According to Pres. Duterte, he will tell the unvaccinated person that he and the person won’t have a problem if the person has been vaccinated.

“If you die, then you’re on your own. Hospitals are full by this time. The contamination is ever growing,” he said.

Based on the report, the President stressed that vaccinated individuals have a defense against the virus. He also emphasized that everyone’s affected by the situation now including those in the government.

Currently, the vaccination program is ongoing. There were two (2) mass vaccination drives recently conducted by the government and it jabbed over 10 million people. The giving of booster shots for the healthcare workers have also started.

The country needs to fully vaccinate at least 70 million people to achieve population protection against the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, there is a new threat, the Omicron, which was reported to be a “heavily mutated” variant of the virus.
