Former SP Alan Peter Cayetano Says Minority Senators Allegedly Struggle over Supposed Cover-up in Flood Control Scam

ALAN PETER CAYETANO – The Senate minority Leader claimed that the minority senators are having a hard time dealing with the happenings now.

The INC surprise rally which gathered thousands of the members of the religious bloc held the protest to show support to Sen. Rodante Marcoleta. It was organized amid the looming plunder charges against Marcoleta as announced by Ombudsman Boying Remulla.

The possible filing of plunder charges against Sen. Rodante Marcoleta is in line with the P75 million campaign contribution to him which he claimed happened before the campaign period. The said amount was not declared in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN).

Today, former Senate Pres. Alan Peter Cayetano joined the INC surprise rally. Thousands of INC members gathered along the White Plains Avenue. When asked what made him join the protest, based on his post on social media, the now-Senate Minority Leader claimed that the minority senators are struggling now amid the many issues in the country and the ordinary Filipinos could be experiencing worse.

“Mahirap. Kami senador na but whether you talk of magkapatid na Villar na kaliwa’t kanan ‘yung kaso dahil naninindigan o dahil nung eleksyon may tampo sa kanila, si Sen. Padilla tuloy-tuloy ang batikos sa kanya pero nakita niyo ‘yung mga sakripisyo. Si Sen. Bato hindi naman niya kailangang magpakita dun but he wanted ‘yung pagbabago. Si Sen. Bong Go sinasabi palabas na ‘yung warrant and, of course, si Sen. Jinggoy ikinulong na,” Cayetano said.

According to Senate minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano, the minority senators are allegedly having a hard time over the supposed cover-up in the flood control issue. He also claimed that they are struggling that the majority senators want the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte to be fair but they don’t want anyone from the Cayetano bloc to preside the proceedings.

“Ayaw nila na mag-preside hindi sila. Ayaw nila na iba ang majority. What more the ordinary Filipino na konting ulan, baha na. What more the ordinary Filipino na ‘yung pagtaas ng gasolina either nawalan ng trabaho o hindi na nila mahatid ‘yung crops nila, so ‘yung paghihirap nandiyan. So ‘yung paghihirap nandiyan and ang Pilipino is very mapagtiis eh. Habang hindi kailangang umangal hindi aangal,” the former Senate Chief said based on the post.

Cayetano had a very short stint as Senate President. It was in June 17 when he conceded as the Senate president after two (2) of the members of the bloc he leads joined the now-majority bloc. They are senators Chiz Escudero and Joel Villanueva.
