Metro Manila Mayors Convene over Changes amid Alert Level 3

METRO MANILA MAYORS – The mayors in the National Capital Region (NCR) agreed to limit the movements of the unvaccinated residents.

The increase in the daily recorded new cases of COVID-19 in Metro Manila prompted the tightening of the restrictions. The National Capital Region (NCR) is under Alert Level 3 until January 15, 2022. Several local government units in the capital region have strengthened their curbs.

In Manila City, Mayor Isko Moreno re-imposed the curfew on minors. There are also changes in the movements of unvaccinated individuals. In fact, the Metro Manila Mayors shared a common stand with regards to the movements of the residents who have yet to receive their jabs.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Metro Manila Mayors have agreed to limit the movements of the unvaccinated individuals while the capital region is under Alert Level 3. According to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Benhur Abalos, unvaccinated people in Metro Manila including the minors must stay at their house.

Unvaccinated residents will be allowed to go out from their houses for essential purposes like the buying of food supplies. According to the report, the establishments will also have to tighten their measures. The mall-goers and restaurant customers must be required to present their vaccination cards and IDs upon entry.

With regards to the employees who are not yet vaccinated, they will have to undergo an RT-PCR test every two (2) weeks and it is at their own expense. Those people and establishments that will go against the protocols will have to face the penalty of up to Php 50,000.00 and up to one (1) month of imprisonment.

Currently, the world is on the watch for the Omicron, the variant of COVID-19 that was first recorded in South Africa. It was reported to be a “heavily mutated” variant of the virus. Further studies and observation of its behavior are being conducted.
