Leni Robredo stressed how serious she is when it comes to her presidential candidacy
Vice President Leni Robredo reiterated that there will be no substitution for her and her running mate Senator Kiko Pangilinan.
Under the Comelec Resolution No. 10695, November 15 is the last for the “substitution of an official candidate of a political party or coalition who withdrew, died or was disqualified.” Speculations circulating that PDP-Laban, the party of President Rodrigo Duterte, is planning to use the substitution privilege just like what he did in 2016.
It was alleged that Senator Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa will be substituted by presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, who reiterated several times that she will not run for President as she already filed her candidacy for mayor for her last term.
In an interview, Dela Rosa expressed that he would gladly give way for Mayor Sara if she will finally decide to run for the highest position.
On the other hand, VP Leni Robredo reiterated that they will not be using this privilege. Based on the report from The Philippine Star, the presidential candidate said they continue this battle until the end.
“When we filed (our certificates of candidacy), we were already decided to finish this. For me, the law regarding substitution has been abused. We have provisions on substitution because these are for particular reasons,” she said.
She also stressed that substitution must be used under extraordinary situations and not just for political reasons that will benefit a politician or a party. Previously, the Vice President already expressed her support for calls to review the rules on substitution.
Meanwhile, on November 5, VP Leni Robredo visited Bacolod City and parts of Negros Occidental. When asked if she is confident that she will have the support of provinces all the way like what happened in 2016, she said that hard work needs to be done in order to get the support of the people.
