Alex Eala Returns Home for a Special Fan Celebration After Historic Wimbledon Run
ALEX EALA – Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala is set for an exciting homecoming as she prepares to meet supporters in Manila before heading back to the international tennis circuit.
Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala is scheduled to return home for a special fan event before beginning her hardcourt campaign in the United States later this month. Following her remarkable performance at Wimbledon, Eala will headline “Home Court: The Alex Eala Fan Meet Experience” on July 15 at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City.
Organized by Globe, where she serves as a Gen G Ambassador, the gathering will allow Filipino supporters to celebrate her recent accomplishments. While the event is open to the public, organizers have yet to announce details regarding admission.
Expected to arrive in the Philippines this weekend, Eala will share highlights from her memorable Wimbledon campaign and discuss her preparations for the upcoming US Open, scheduled from August 30 to September 13 in New York.
“We celebrate the homecoming of the Filipina tennis star following her inspiring Wimbledon campaign — a journey that showcased not only her world-class talent, but also the resilience, grit, and courage that continue to inspire millions of Filipinos, especially the youth,” the announcement stated.
“Alex embodies what it means to pursue greatness with purpose. Through her discipline, humility, and determination to break barriers, she represents the values of a generation that’s ready to dream bigger, work harder, and create a positive impact. Be part of this special evening.”
This marks Eala’s second visit to Manila this year after leading the Philippine Women’s Open in January at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. Since then, her international success has continued to elevate her career, including climbing to World No. 29.
Her Wimbledon campaign made history for Philippine tennis as she became the first Filipina to be seeded in a Grand Slam, the first Filipina to win a Wimbledon main-draw match, and the first to advance to both the third and fourth rounds of a major tournament.
Among the highlights of her run was a stunning 7-6 (11-9), 6-2 victory over reigning Wimbledon champion and World No. 3 Iga Swiatek of Poland. The upset earned worldwide recognition and praise from Catherine, Princess of Wales, Billie Jean King, Venus Williams, and Eala’s childhood idol, Maria Sharapova.
Although her journey concluded in the Round of 16 after a hard-fought loss to Italy’s Jasmine Paolini, Eala enjoyed an outstanding grass-court season. She compiled a 12-4 record, captured her second career title in Birmingham, reached the semifinals in Berlin, and defeated top-ranked players Elena Rybakina and Elina Svitolina.
With victories over seven Top-10 opponents, Eala now shifts her focus to the North American hardcourt swing, beginning with the Mubadala DC Open before competing in Toronto, Cincinnati, and eventually the US Open. Before returning to the international stage, however, she will first enjoy a well-deserved homecoming and celebrate her achievements with Filipino fans.
