Former Balut Vendor Works Hard for 5 Years & Becomes Licensed Engineer
VENDOR TURNS ENGINEER – A former balut vendor named Benny Tomas becomes a licensed engineer after five years of hard work.
The inspiring story of balut vendor Benny Tomas goes viral and earned praises from the online community after working hard just to reach his dreams. He reached his dreams because of his hardwork and determination in life.
Benny came from a poor family in Cagayan but he decided to move to Ilocos for pursue his study although he had no relatives and friends in the area. He sells balut to support his studies and financial necessities.
At first, Tomas admitted that he feels embarrassment when selling fertilized duck egg. He changed his mindset in order to reach his goal in life and his family’s situation in poverty inspired him to strive for excellence.
“Pag tinatawagan kop o si mama, wala silang ulam umuutang na lang po sila, ang daming utang pero someday ko alam ko na mawawala rin lahat yan,” Tomas said.
Tomas is earning P500 per day, which he used to buy food and support his daily expenses at school. He is the fifth child of nine siblings and his parents were both farmers. His mom has already stopped from work after suffering from stroke last year.

The vendor’s life becomes harder when the coronavirus pandemic strikes the country. The pandemic strikes during his last year in college but God gives him the chance to finish his study despite the obstacles.
Last September 2021, the balut vendor passed the licensure examinations for Sanitary engineers.
