Rabiya Mateo Apologizes To Miss Canada & Miss Thailand Due To This

This is why Rabiya Mateo said sorry to two of her fellow candidates in Miss Universe.

RABIYA MATEO – Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo apologized to Miss Canada and Miss Thailand because of this reason.

The 69th edition of Miss Universe will be held in Florida, USA, on Sunday, May 16, at 8 pm Eastern Time which is Monday morning of May 17 in the Philippines. Our country bet is Rabiya Mateo who is now already there in the U.S. preparing for the competition. She’s a crowd favorite and although such a name is putting on pressure on her, she said that this kind of pressure is a good one.

18 countries have sent no candidates such as Angola, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Georgia, Guam, Kenya, Lithuania, Mongolia, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Saint Lucia, Sierra Leone, Sweden, Tanzania, Turkey, and U.S. Virgin Islands. This is because of the current health situation of the world causing some travel restrictions.

However, currently making rounds online is Miss Universe Canada Nova Stevens’ statement lashing out at the racist comments against her. The disrespectful remarks included from Pinoys to which some are: “nognog (‘N words’),” “katakot (scary),” “akala ko engkanto (‘I thought she was a ghost’),” “over well done ang chicken, charge sa grill man (‘burnt chicken’),” and “tostadong tostado na nga nasunog pa (‘she is toasted and burned’)”.

She expressed disappointment at these fans from other countries and expressed that they are not required to support every contestant but they can at least support their candidate without letting others down. She also said, “Your hate takes away the fun and enjoyment from this once in a lifetime experience. Is it really that difficult to spread love instead of hate?”

Aside from Miss Universe Canada, Miss Universe Thailand Amanda Obdam also received critical and hate comments from some Pinoys. And with this, during a press conference via Zoom with Armin Adina, Rabiya shared that she felt sorry for them and she already extended her apologies to both of them.

She sent both of them personal messages saying sorry. She believed that those comments do not reflect Filipinos. The Iloilo beauty added, “And with Miss Universe, the goal is to celebrate the differences and to be with the girls and the cause that they stand for.”
