Being a crowd favorite, PH bet Rabiya says that it was a “good pressure”.

RABIYA MATEO – Philippines bet for this year’s Miss Universe pageant Rabiya Mateo talked about the pressure of being a crowd favorite.

Iloilo beauty Rabiya was the one who snatched the Miss Universe Philippines crown held last year despite the pandemic. And for this year, representing the country on the international stage which will be held in the United States of America, she vowed to do her best and snatch the international crown and title for the country. If she ever wins, this will be the 5th crown for the country following the triumphs of Gloria Diaz, Margie Moran, Pia Wurtzbach, and Catriona Gray.

For this year, because of the pandemic and travel restrictions, 18 countries have announced backing out from the pageant. The countries that wasn’t able to send their candidates are Angola, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Georgia, Guam, Kenya, Lithuania, Mongolia, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Saint Lucia, Sierra Leone, Sweden, Tanzania, Turkey, and U.S. Virgin Islands.

Gifted with both beauty and brains, she instantly became a crowd’s favorite in the pageant, and having been called that is putting some good pressure on her accordingly. Although the situation of the competition will be a bit tough and complicated due to the health situation of the world, Rabiya swore to do her best. She has prepared for this to happen and thankful that Miss Universe Philippines’ creative director Jonas Gaffud is living in the same house with her in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

All of her training for the competition are done virtually but eyeing to have the crown fuels her. She shared, “I want to make the Filipinos proud. This is gonna be my grandest gift to them. As I have the biggest fight of my life, I have in my heart and mind the support of millions of Filipinos.”

Feeling a good pressure being a crowd’s favorite, she believed that “it’s about destiny”. she just hopes to do well and for the stars to be aligned for her on the day of the coronation. She also revealed a tip she got from Miss Universe Philippines National Director Shamcey Supsup which is to be careful in scored events.

She added based on a report from PEP, “But during the preliminary interview, I really need to do well, that’s why I’ve been practicing the whole time for it. It’s like trying to have that winning perspective. It’s gonna separate the best from the rest.”
