Feels like a “dagger” right through. Dennis Padilla gets honest with Julia Barretto about her petition to change her last name before.
DENNIS PADILLA – In full honesty, Dennis Padilla expressed his pain to Julia Barretto over her petition to drop his last name from her name before.
Way back in 2013, Kapamilya actress Julia Barretto filed a petition to drop “Baldivia”, her father Dennis Padilla’s real last name, in her name and be changed to “Barretto”, her mother’s surname. This is accordingly her way to prevent confusion and not in any way connected to his failure to provide financial support to them.
The comedian has expressed before that he would understand it if they ever decide to do such a thing because he wasn’t able to provide for his children. It was accordingly due to his irregular work since he and Marjorie separated. But in 2015, Julia decided not to push it anymore and drop her petition instead of dropping her father’s surname from her name.
And now, about this issue several years after it happened, Dennis became honest to his daughter and expressed that it was really painful. In her vlog, the comedian said this right in front of the actress through Zoom, “That was a dagger.”
He added as he himself recalled this issue amid this deep conversation he’s having with her daughter, “It’s not the pangalan itself. That’s my blood, kaya masakit yun. Barretto na nga ang dala mo sa screen, bakit tatanggalin niyo pa ang apelyido ko? Masakit sa akin ‘yun.”
Julia, also speaking up about this, explained to her Papa that what she did is only to “correct his mistake”. To recall, the finding out of his marriage with Marjorie to be null and void due to his marriage prior which is way back in 1994, the legitimation of Julia was put in question. Marjorie and Dennis’ marriage then was null and void on the ground that it was bigamous. And since there was no marriage, citing Article 165 of the Family Code, Julia is an illegitimate child
But now, with all of these all gone and in the past now, Julia told her father how proud she is of him and the better changes she saw after his COVID-19 journey. She also had her share of pain before what in her statement, she is seemingly telling her comedian father that what matter most now is the present where all has been forgiven.
“I am so proud of you because I saw the change after your journey with COVID. I appreciate all our conversations now. Everybody is so much humble, forgiving, understanding. I am really proud of you because I saw the change of heart,” she told him.
