COMELEC Speaks on Request for Higher Pay for Teachers Over Election Duties

COMELEC – The Commission on Elections spoke on the pay for the teachers for the election duties in the Elections 2022.

The next national election is a year from now. Undeniably, there are already a lot of talks about it and as well as preparations. Many people already have in mind who their bets would possibly be in the upcoming political race.

Surveys have also named several personalities in politics who may possibly ran for president in the upcoming election. Presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio’s name top the list but she stressed no plans of running in the 2022 election.

There are also rumors that Senator Manny Pacquiao will run in the upcoming election. Meanwhile, he is consistent on stressing the focus on the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines now.

During the election, several teachers under the Department of Education (DepEd) are performing duties. There are several teachers sitting as Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs).

Recently, the Commission on Election (COMELEC) spoke on the pay for the teachers over election duties – specifically the request for a higher pay. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the election body assured that it will work with DepEd over the said matter.

Election Department Spokesman James Jimenez said that the body recognizes the “invaluable role played by teachers” in making sure that the election is successful. DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones wrote a letter over the request for a higher pay citing the risk for teachers amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the report, the following are the proposed pay:

  • Php 9,000.00 for the chairperson of the BEIs
  • Php 8,000.00 for each member of the BEI
  • Php 7,000.00 for the DepEd Supervisor Official
  • Php 5,000.00 for the support staff
  • Php 500.00 daily as COVID hazard pay for the authorized poll workers
