Bela Padilla Clears Her Name Amid Robin Padilla Backlash
BELA PADILLA – After days of online speculation, Bela Padilla clarified her relationship with senator and actor Robin Padilla, saying their beliefs are far from the same.
Actress Bela Padilla addressed the growing criticism linking her to the political views of her uncle, Robin Padilla, making it clear that she has no involvement in his political stance or his recent casting in the action-drama series “Blood vs Duty.”
In a statement posted on X on Thursday, Bela explained that she felt the need to speak out after repeatedly receiving questions online regarding both her uncle’s participation in the series and the controversy surrounding Ronald dela Rosa.
“Growing up, my tito Robin was kind to me and my family. I will be forever grateful for this. But as our careers flourished and took different directions, with him entering politics, our personal encounters have become scarcer. Our ideologies also differed,” Bela wrote.
The actress stressed that despite being relatives, they no longer spend much time together and rarely see each other in person.
“I do not live close to my uncle. I haven’t seen tito Robin until we shared the same call time last Friday. Before then, I saw him 3 years ago,” she said.
Bela also clarified rumors suggesting she influenced Robin Padilla’s inclusion in “Blood vs Duty,” a project that also features Gerald Anderson and Richard Gutierrez.
“My uncle being cast in the show was neither because of my influence nor my being part of the cast. I was cast in December. He is a recent addition to the show. This decision is purely the prerogative of the executive and supervising producers of the show,” she explained.
Bela further emphasized that their family connection should not be mistaken for shared political beliefs.
“My uncle’s political affiliation has nothing to do with my personal beliefs and convictions. We are related but we manage to agree to disagree,” she wrote.
Before releasing her statement, Bela responded to a social media user questioning why she commented on the issue involving Dela Rosa while allegedly remaining silent about her uncle.
“Sorry, but, what? I’m also assigned projects too. I was cast in this project in December. My uncle was added on recently. I have no power whatsoever in casting decisions,” she replied.
She added, “We work and are managed separately.”
The online debate intensified after a turbulent week inside the Senate involving Dela Rosa, who recently resurfaced after months away from public attention amid reports linking him to an alleged International Criminal Court arrest warrant connected to the Duterte administration’s anti-drug campaign.
Public attention toward Dela Rosa further grew after viral videos circulated online showing tense exchanges inside the Senate. Bela later reposted commentary criticizing the senator’s behavior during the incident as well as his long absences from Senate sessions.
