DOH Reports 14 Cases of Fireworks-Related Injuries Recorded Prior to New Year’s Celebration

The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded at least 14 cases of fireworks-related injuries ahead of New Year celebration.

On Thursday (December 31, 2020), DOH –National Capital Region director Corazon Flores reported that around 13 individuals have been injured due to firecrackers and one by a stray bullet.

As of December 30, the health department release a report showing that this year’s fireworks-related injuries in 76 percent lower compared to the total number of cases last year. 45 cases have been recorded in 2019 before greeting the New Year’s Eve.

Fireworks-Related Injuries

“As of yesterday, meron na tayong 14 cases. Thirteen cases po ng firework injuries and isang stray bullet,” Flores said.

The current number of firework injuries is 87 percent lower compared 2015-2019 average cases. The National Capital Region’s current record is also 71 percent lower than last year’s record.

DOH reported that the injured individuals have been victimized by illegal firecrackers such as 5-star, boga, bong-bong, and piccolo. Other victims have been injured by baby rocket, fountain, kwitis, rebentador andwhistle bomb.

Fireworks-Related Injuries

Metro Manila and some local government units within the city have imposed a firecracker ban to ensure the safety of everyone.
