Japan Closed Borders To World In Bid To Prevent Spread Of New COVID-19 Variant

JAPAN CLOSED BORDERS TO WORLD – Upon hearing news of a new and more transmissible COVID-19 strain, Japan suspended new entries into the country.

Currently, nonresidential foreign nationals arriving from most of the world are banned from entry in Japan. Furthermore, the Japanese government also required its citizens and foreigners to submit a negative virus test result upon arrival.

Recently, health authorities from the U.K. reported a new strain of COVID-19. Although the strain is not anymore deadlier than the current strains, it was found to be potentially more transmissible.

Meanwhile, according to the World Health Organization, new strains such as this is normal in the virus’ lifecycle. However, the new strain has now been confirmed in over 20 countries such as Britain and Hong Kong.

According to an article from ABS-CBN, Japan has confirmed 8 cases of the new COVID-19 variant from Britain. These include an airline pilot who returned from London last December 16. But, the other case was a woman who’s family had zero history of visiting Britain.

With this, local health authorities fear of a possible community transmission of the new virus. As of Saturday, Japan has recorded 3,881 COVID-19 cases.
