Undas 2020: Metro Manila Cemeteries To Be Closed As Agreed by Mayors

METRO MANILA CEMETERIES – The mayors of the cities in Metro Manila have agreed to close the burial sites during the Undas 2020.

The Philippines is still on a battle against the COVID-19 pandemic now. As of this writing, the Department of Health (DOH) has logged a total of 261,216 cases of coronavirus in the country.

Out of the said total, the death toll is at 4,371 while 207,568 patients have already recovered according to the health department. The country is still under different community quarantine measures now.

Among the protocols in the fight against COVID-19 are the wearing of a face mask when going outdoors and the practice of social distancing.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the government officials are implementing certain decisions to prevent its spread. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the mayors in Metro Manila recently arrived in one common ground – the closing of the funeral sites during Undas 2020.

Undeniably, the people gather in cemeteries starting October 31 until November 2 to visited their deceased loved ones. However, due to the pandemic, a crowd is prohibited.

According to the report, Metro Manila cemeteries will be closed during the Undas 2020 as agreed by the mayors. It was confirmed by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority General Manager Jojo Garcia and Parañaque City Mayor and Metro Manila Council Chairman Edwin Olivarez.

The guidelines regarding the closure of the Metro Manila cemeteries from October 29 to November 4 were discussed by the mayors during their meeting last Sunday. Manila was the first to decide on the closure of the cemeteries and Mayor Isko Moreno has already announced it last week.
