Archbishop Broderick Pabillo Reacts To Possible Closure of All Cemeteries During Undas 2020
Archbishop Broderick Pabillo is against the possible closure of all of the cemeteries in the Philippines during Undas 2020.
The All Saints’ Day every November 1 and the All Souls’ Day every November 2 or the Undas are two of the events that are widely-observed in the Philippines.
In fact, starting October 31, a lot of people go to cemeteries to visit their loved ones. It is also a time when flower vendors got a lot of displays in parks and in the streets of cemeteries as family and friends of the deceased offer flowers to their late loved ones. It is apart from the candle lighting.
Several households also prepare food during the event. Some even bring their food in cemeteries to have something to gather upon after praying for their deceased loved ones.
However, considering that the Philippines is dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic now, there is a possibility that the cemeteries will be closed during the Undas. It is to prevent the gathering of people.
In fact, in Manila, Mayor Isko Moreno has already announced the closure of the these public places. The City Mayor requested for understanding amid the pandemic posing risk now.
Recently, Archbishop Broderick Pabillo reacted to the possible closure of all cemeteries during Undas. The Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Manila is against the said move.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Bishop Pabillo agrees to the closure of the cemeteries in the cities but not in provinces and small barangays. According to him, there are only a few people who visit these places in November 1 and 2.
According to the report, Archbishop Broderick Pabillo also encouraged the public to remember their late loved ones by going to the church since November 1 will fall on Sunday.
