Senior Citizen Dies After Being Repeatedly Struck on Head w/ Bamboo by Debtor
A senior citizen lost his life after being struck on the head with a bamboo pole by a man who allegedly owed him money in Laoac, Pangasinan.
According to police reports, the 68-year-old man was lying on the veranda of an abandoned house when the suspect arrived carrying a piece of bamboo. Investigators believe the suspect suddenly attacked the elderly man and repeatedly hit him on the head.
The victim suffered severe injuries from the assault and later died as a result of the attack. Police said the incident was likely rooted in a long-standing dispute involving an unpaid debt.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim had been trying to collect money that the suspect allegedly owed him. The disagreement reportedly caused tension between the two men for quite some time.
“Ang tinitingnan po nating anggulo doon ay ‘yung old grudge dahil nagmula na rin po ito sa pagkakautang ng suspek dito po sa victim natin,” Laoac Police Station chief Police Major Glenn Dulay.
Authorities also learned that the victim and the suspect had argued several times in the days leading up to the fatal incident. Investigators believe the repeated confrontations may have contributed to the violence that eventually took place.
The suspect admitted his involvement in the attack. He reportedly told authorities that he became angry because the victim kept reminding him about the unpaid debt.
The suspect also claimed that the victim owed him money as well, although he said he had chosen not to pursue it.
The victim’s family was deeply saddened by the incident and is now seeking justice for their loved one. Relatives said they are determined to move forward with filing the necessary legal cases against the suspect.
