Amid Government Officials Being Arrested, Ombudsman Boying Remulla Speaks on Former Speaker Martin Romualdez
Ombudsman Boying Remulla claimed that the plunder charges against presidential cousin and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez are near its filing.
Several government officials were tagged in the supposed multi-billion flood control corruption in the Philippines. One of them is former House Speaker Martin Romualdez who stepped down from the speakership amid the accusations. The corruption issue triggered thousands of Filipinos to rally in the streets.
It was former House of Representatives Budget Appropriations Committee chairman Zaldy Co who implicated not only Romualdez but as well as Pres. Bongbong Marcos in the flood control mess. According to Co, suitcases filled with money were allegedly delivered for the President and the former House Speaker.
Romualdez stepped down from the House speakership as he claimed that he wants to give the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) the opportunity to investigate and do their mandate without undue influence. He claimed that he is a self-made man.
Amid the ongoing flood control investigations, Ombudsman Boying Remulla previously revealed that they turned down the request of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez to be allowed to travel to Singapore. According to the country’s chief graft-buster, it is allegedly to avoid instances that he might not come back.
Amid the accusations against him, Romualdez previously warned the Marcos Jr. administration that he has ‘seen and heard enough’. Dropping a cryptic message, he said he know many things.
“I have been in public life long enough. I have seen enough. I have heard enough. I know many things: about this current administration and past administrations as well,” he said.
Recently, Ombudsman Boying Remulla spoke on former House Speaker Martin Romualdez amid the ongoing flood control investigation. Some government officials were recently arrested due to certain issues including their alleged involvement in the flood control mess.
Based on a report of News5, Ombudsman Boying Remulla said that the plunder charges against former House Speaker Martin Romualdez are close to their filing.
“‘Pag binuo ‘yung kaso at finile, hindi siya basta-basta mawawasak ng counsel,” Remulla said.
