Here’s reason why Mayor Sara Duterte allows some public vehicles operation in Davao.
MAYOR SARA DUTERTE – Operation in taxis and tricycles are still allowed in Davao City amid the enhanced community quarantine and here’s reason according to Mayor Sara Duterte.
One of the strict guidelines if an area is put under state of enhanced community quarantine is the suspension of public transportation which basically means that public vehicles are not allowed to operate. And the Davao City, being under state of ECQ, seemingly had their exceptions.
Operations for taxis and tricycles are allowed and the mayor, Sara Duterte, said that this decision was based on the memorandum from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) which was released last March 21. It states there that taxis and tricycles are allowed to operate as long as they will only have a maximum of two passengers.
The private vehicles and taxis are allowed to only have one driver with one passenger each in front seat and at the back. Also, one person is allowed on bicycles and motorcycles. As for the workers who are not included in the list of suspended works, such as the medical workers and frontliners, they are provided of free bus rides.
In a statement, Mayor Sara indicated, as per ABS-CBN’s report, that if public transportation will be suspended, only those who owns private vehicles can easily go around the city to buy the needed and basic necessities and those who have nothing will resort to walking a long distance.
Accordingly, Davao has 80 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday with 11 deaths and 21 recoveries.
