Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte issues warning to those people who discriminate against health workers amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Health workers, among the frontliners during the coronavirus outbreak in the Philippines, are risking their lives in order to fulfill their duties. They are also instruments in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Amid this health crisis, several health workers are also risking their own lives. Some of them already died after they got infected while fulfilling their duties.

However, despite their sacrifices, some of them are experiencing discrimination because of the fear of the people that they are virus carriers. In line with this, Sara Duterte issues warning.

Based on the report from The Manila Times, those discriminating against health workers will be arrested, the Davao City Mayor said. Inday Sara gave this warning to the public after a report surfaced that a person doused water to a health worker.

“There are really people like that. You watch out because the police will arrest you. There were many people already arrested by police for sorts of violations,” the mayor said as translated in English.

Mayor Sara Duterte added that those people who did this kind of thing also violated the liquor ban and curfew, as well as assaulted authorities at the checkpoint. The presidential daughter also reiterated that frontliners such as the health workers should be treated with respect because they are fulfilling their duties in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The mayor also said that without these frontliners, it would be so much harder for the country to deal with the health crisis, based on the report.
