Japan-Led Lender Asian Development Bank Employee Tests Positive for Coronavirus Disease 2019

A certain employee of the Asian Development Bank in Mandaluyong City has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019.

On Tuesday (March 24, 2020), ADB released a statement confirming that one of their staff members of its headquarters in Mandaluyong City has tested positive for COVID-19 after experiencing mild signs and symptoms.

Initially, the bank employee has not been required to be admitted to the hospital because he is experiencing only mild manifestation of coronavirus symptoms. The worker was last seen at the Manila office on March 11, 2020 (Wednesday).

Deborah Stokes, ADB vice-president for administration and corporate management said that their employees started to observe work-from-home status since March 12, 2020 (Thursday) to allow the management to clean and disinfect the headquarters.

“We are providing care and support to our colleague and wish the staff member a speedy recovery,” Deborah Stokes said.

The Japan-led lender, which was established in 1966 is assisting its partners and members by providing investments, grants, technical assistance, and loans. The company also aims to promote social and economic development in the country.

As of this writing, the Department of Health recorded 501 confirmed coronavirus cases and a total of 33 deaths in the Philippines. 19 patients reportedly recovered from the contagious disease.
