PAGASA Warns Filipino People That El Niño May Develop By Late 2018

The state weather bureau PAGASA has warned the Filipino people, that El Niño level might develop by late 2018.

On Wednesday (June 20, 2018), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned the Filipinos that El Niño may develop by the fourth quarter of the year.

PAGASA’s climate monitoring and prediction section officer-in-charge Ana Liza Solis cited the latest data from World Meteorological Organization showing the gradual warming of the tropical Pacific that might cause a possible weak El Niño (Dry Season).

El Niño’s chance to develop is increasing to 60 percent at the end of this year.

Most parts of the country are expected to have near average to slightly warmer than average surface air temperatures during the outlook period from June to August.

El Niño watch has been also issued by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration due to its increasing chance to develop before the end of the year.

El Niño phenomenon is 0.5 degree Celsius or higher during the three-month outlook period.
