Paulo Avelino talked about this part of fatherhood
Kapamilya actor Paulo Avelino revealed in a recent interview that this is the joy of fatherhood for him.
Paulo now has a teenage son, Ethan Akio, with former partner LJ Reyes. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony for his newest venture, Play Space at Ayala Malls Vermosa, he was asked whether he identifies as a strict or hands-on father.
“Sakto lang. I’m a mix of both,” he said, based on the article in The Philippine Star. He explained that he strives to strike a healthy balance between both parenting styles.
“I think it should be half and half. Kids nowadays are very bright. They have everything on the Internet, they know what’s good, what’s wrong,” the actor shared.
He added that with children, they need to recognize authority so they can distinguish right from wrong when instructions are given.
Paulo also said that gentle parenting is always the way to go, which is avoiding the traditional methods that involve spanking or hurting the child, but the actor said that parents still need to be firm so the children know who holds the authority.
Mentioning one of the greatest joys of fatherhood, Paulo Avelino said that it is seeing his son happy. It is also important for him to instill values that his son will carry into adulthood.
Meanwhile, Play Space holds deep personal value for marketing director Paulo and his partners, CEO and President Adam Vinluan, business development partner John Gonzales, operations partner Bugsy Lising, Aldrin Lao, Randy Aguirre, and Raymond Mendoza because they are all fathers themselves.
The actor also shared his favorite childhood memory, which inspired him to build a space where modern kids can have fun off-screen.
“I was quiet but had friends — not a lot, but I had tight friends na kalaro ko palagi. I grew up with games and with a PC that my mom had because she was an accountant. Yung PC na ‘yun, as a kid, kinalikot ko, nasira ko and figured out kung paano ayusin.” Paulo Avelino shared.
