Is it true that Giselle Sanchez turned down her role in Darryl Yap’s trilogy?
Comedienne-host Giselle Sanchez played the character “Cory” in Darryl Yap‘s film Maid in Malacanang.
The said movie is the first installment in the trilogy written by Direk Darryl. The role that Giselle portrayed in MiM was quite controversial. In the movie, her character “Cory”, apparently, embodies the person of former President Cory Aquino.
There was a scene in which “Cory” was playing mahjong with nuns and this did not sit well with some religious groups and the supporters of the Aquinos. Those who are against the Marcoses also criticized the scene in which “Cory” told the Americans to get former President Ferdinand Marcos out of the Philippines.
For the second installment of Direk Darryl’s trilogy, the story will go back in time, showing the younger versions of Ferdinand Marcos, Imelda Marcos, Ninoy Aquino, and Cory Aquino.
However, it was said by entertainment columnist Salve Asis in Pilipino Star Ngayon that Giselle Sanchez will no longer play “Cory.”
“Diumano, hindi na kaya ni Giselle na maging tita Cory sa pelikula na nauna na niyang ginampanan sa Maid in Malacañang na naging controversial dahil sa naging reaction ng netizens lalo na sa eksenang nagma-mahjong si the late Cory Aquino,” the columnist said in her article with the title “Giselle Sanchez, umayaw nang maging Cory Aquino.”
Asis also shared that the shooting for MoM has already started but it is still unknown who will play “Cory.” However, the columnist did not share further details about Giselle’s decision to turn down the opportunity to play “Cory” again.
