WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION – The WHO expects more waves of COVID-19 across the globe amid new sublineages of the virus.
The COVID-19 pandemic is one of the global challenges that is ongoing for a few years now. It cost millions of lives across the globe and brought financial challenges to several nations. The economies of several countries were greatly pulled down by the pandemic.
Governments had no choice but to implement strict restrictions to fight the spread of the virus. Several businesses were not able to cope with the situation and had to close. Many people lost their jobs following the closure of some businesses.
Vaccination drives against COVID-19 were launched. Several countries moved fast to achieve herd immunity against the virus. Amid the waning of the effectiveness of the vaccines, booster shots were also given.
Several countries got a drop in their COVID-19 cases. Following the easing of the COVID situation, some nations loosened their restrictions. The World Health Organization (WHO) previously warned countries that the pandemic is not over somewhere if it is not over everywhere.
Recently, several nations recorded an increase in their daily COVID-19 cases log. It was followed by the WHO reminders that the pandemic is nowhere near over.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the World Health Organization (WHO) is expecting more COVID-19 waves due to the new sublineage of the virus. According to Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, the BA.2.75 which is a sublineage of Omicron is already classified a variant of concern. They are currently observing the behavior of the said sublineage of the virus. The international body previously urged countries to use measures that were already proven to fight the spread of the virus.
Reportedly, no case of the BA.2.75 was detected in the Philippines so far. Meanwhile, the country has seen a growth in the daily recorded cases of COVID-19. The country’s President is one of those who recently contracted the virus.
