Based on the report from The Philippine Star, in a pre-recorded video, Marcos said, “I am today announcing my intention to run for the presidency of the Philippines. I will bring that form of unifying leadership in our country.”

In 2016, he run for Vice President but was defeated by VP Leni Robredo. He had his electoral protest for several years until Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) junked it last May.

Prior to his announcement, Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL), the political party established by Ferdinand Marcos, endorsed Bongbong Marcos for president last month. At that time, BBM thanked the party but has not directly accepted the endorsement.

In the same Philstar report, it was stated that the former Senator joined Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, formed by Agrarian Reform Secretary John Castriciones and other allies of the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte in 2018.
