Ombudsman Boying Remulla Speaks on Allegation of Lawyer Levito Baligod

BOYING REMULLA – The Ombudsman confirmed that he has met with former Senator Antonio Trillanes and the International Criminal Court (ICC) personnel in 2025.

President Bongbong Marcos and his administration were undeniably heavily-criticized over the arrest and the transfer of custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the ICC. The former Chief Executive is detained under the custody of the foreign court since March 2025.

Amid his continued detention under the foreign court in The Hague, Netherlands, Duterte’s lawyer, Nicholas Kaufman, claimed that Marcos Jr. allegedly broke his promise when he cooperated with the ICC. During the confirmation of charges hearing, he claimed that the President allegedly signed a letter stating that the country will not cooperate with the foreign court.

Recently, a joint affidavit throwing an accusation of allegedly having meetings with the ICC personnel was referred to the Office of Ombudsman by lawyer Levi Baligod and 18 individuals. The affidavit is against the Ombudsman himself, Boying Remulla.

Recently, in a chance interview, Ombudsman Boying Remulla confirmed that he has indeed met with former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV and the ICC personnel in 2025 as per News5. On the accusation that the supposed meeting alleged brought “undue damage” to the government, the Ombudsman claimed that the meeting supposedly happen after the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte already.

“Sinabi ko nakausap ko. Ano ngayon? Tapos na ata yung pangyayari nun, nung kinakausap namin – 2025 yun nung kinausap namin. After March. Wala pang isang taon yun, sigurado ako,” Remulla claimed.

Based on the post, Ombudsman Boying Remulla claimed that his meeting with the ICC personnel was allegedly for the purpose of protecting the Filipino witnesses. He expressed his desire to have the claims of the 19 individuals investigated even if it is against him.

“I want to get the individual affidavits of each of them. The allegations are serious. Kahit kasama ako diyan,” the Ombudsman added.

The confirmation of charges hearing on the case against former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was recently held in The Hague, Netherlands. The former Chief Executive is faced with three (3) counts of murder as alleged crimes against humanity.

Previously, the lawyer of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte claimed that the former President has accepted the possibility that he will die in prison. On the ICC case against Duterte, two (2) incumbent senators and known Duterte allies, senators Bato dela Rosa and Bong Go, were tagged as alleged co-perpetrators of the former President.
