Vendor in Cavite Loses Cellphone to Fake Customer

Vendor Expresses Frustration After Losing Mobile Phone to Fake Customer

A vendor in Imus, Cavite shared her disheartening experience after her cellphone was stolen by a woman who pretended to be a customer.

According to the vendor’s daughter, Lea, the woman approached their stall and acted as if she was buying several trays of rice cakes. She even asked their fellow vendor to prepare the order, making it seem like a normal transaction. The move kept the sellers busy and less suspicious of her real intentions.

CCTV footage showed the woman entering the stall to pick up the puto she ordered. Moments later, she placed the tray on top of the vendor’s cellphone. She then walked out briefly before returning to discreetly slip the phone into her bag. By the time the vendor noticed, the woman was already gone.

The stolen cellphone had only been bought a few weeks earlier and was worth around P16,000. The vendor was still paying for it in installments, with six more months to go. For a small business owner, losing the phone was a heavy blow since it was not only valuable but also useful for daily transactions and communication.

Lea shared that this was not the first time they had been targeted by thieves in their stall. Unfortunately, they could not clearly identify the suspect, who they believe was only passing by the market that day.

Out of frustration, the family decided not to file a report to the police, thinking it would be difficult to recover the phone. Still, the experience left them more cautious and served as a reminder of how easily hardworking vendors can become victims of theft.
