A young girl passed away after being electrocuted by a malfunctioning clip fan inside their home in Las Piñas City.
A five-year-old girl lost her life after being electrocuted by a malfunctioning clip fan inside their home in Las Piñas City. Her grandmother and sibling were also electrocuted during the incident.
The victim, identified as May, was known by her family as a cheerful and affectionate child. According to her relatives, the accident happened when a damaged clip fan allegedly became electrically charged after its exposed wiring came into contact with a metal part of a double-deck bed.
Family members said the floor was wet at the time because they had been dealing with a water shortage. May had also been wet when the accident occurred, which may have contributed to the severity of the electric shock.
The child reportedly cried out in pain, prompting her grandmother to check on her. Believing at first that the young girl was only playing, the grandmother touched her and was also electrocuted.
May’s younger sibling was likewise shocked after coming into contact with her during the incident.
Fortunately, the grandmother and sibling survived. However, May suffered the strongest electrical shock and was rushed for medical treatment.
Her father, Noel, a tricycle driver, was working when the accident happened. He immediately went to the hospital after learning about the incident. Sadly, he arrived to find that his daughter had already passed away.
The family is now facing another challenge as they prepare for May’s burial. According to relatives, there has been confusion regarding assistance for funeral services because of issues involving residency records between Las Piñas and nearby Bacoor City.
The family has appealed for help from local authorities and kind-hearted individuals to ease the burden of funeral expenses.
Barangay officials have also reminded the public to regularly inspect electrical appliances at home, especially electric fans and other commonly used devices. They stressed the importance of checking for damaged wires and preventing children from handling electrical plugs and outlets.
