Here are some issues of Gretchen Barretto, despite being away from the limelight for many years now.
GRETCHEN BARRETTO – The former actress has stepped out of the limelight for decades now, but still found herself tied to many issues.
For many years now, Gretchen Barretto has largely stepped away from acting and from any entertainment affairs. She focused on other aspects of her life, including her personal, family, and entrepreneurial pursuits.
However, despite being away from the limelight, she remained highly talked-about because of the issues she was involved with. Her popularity seems tied to controversy, and here are some of her issues from the past to the present.
In 2014, Gretchen revealed the dysfunction within her family, and over many years, the public has witnessed their family feuds and her conflicts with her sisters Claudine Barretto and Marjorie Barretto.
Gretchen and Claudine reconciled in 2019, but the tensions remain between her and Marjorie.
The Barretto sisters also fought in front of then-President Rodrigo Duterte and in front of their father’s casket. Several videos of the altercation that took place emerged online.
Just like her rift with her family members, Gretchen is also known for her tumultuous love life. In the ’80s, she was linked to retired PBA player Joey Loyzaga. In 1994, she began dating business tycoon Antonio “Tony Boy” Cojuangco. Their relationship was an “open affair” to the public, as the businessman is still legally married to equestrienne Denise Yabut Cojuangco.
In 1995, they welcomed their daughter, Dominique, and to this day, they remain together. There were rumors about their separation, but they also shut it down several times.
In 2007, Gretchen got entangled in a cheating scandal with actor John Estrada. 12 years later, she was associated romantically with businessman Atong Ang. They were captured sleeping on a plane while close together and holding each other’s hands.
The most recent was her controversial connection with the missing sabungeros case. A witness identified her as among the alpha members and was even urged to step forward and testify against Ang, the alleged mastermind behind the mysterious disappearances.
Ang has denied the allegations, and his lawyer claimed that the businessman was being extorted for money by the whistleblower. This was a similar statement when Barretto also denied any involvement in the missing sabungeros case.
