Here’s an update about Kiyapo PH, a tropical depression.

KIYAPO PH – PAGASA released an update about the tropical depression and the areas where Signal No. 1 is currently in effect.

The low pressure area is now a tropical depression named “Kiyapo.” The state weather bureau, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), previously warned about this, stating that Kiyapo is the Philippines’ 11th tropical cyclone for 2026 and the fourth for July.

As per the previous forecast, it will head generally west-northwest toward Northern Luzon from Friday, July 24, to Saturday, July 25.

Recently, in an update from PAGASA, Kiyapo’s center was spotted at 7 PM at 555 km East of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (17.7°N, 127.0°E). It has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 70 km/h, and a central pressure of 1000 hPa, and is moving presently west northwestward at 30 kilometers per hour.

As of the latest, the areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 are:

Luzon:

  • Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, the northern portion of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan), the northern portion of Nueva Vizcaya (Bagabag, Diadi, Bayombong, Ambaguio, Villaverde, Quezon, Solano), the northern portion of Quirino (Maddela, Cabarroguis, Saguday, Diffun, Aglipay) and the northern portion of Benguet (Buguias, Mankayan, Bakun, Kibungan)

According to the track and intensity outlook, heavy rain and strong winds may still affect areas outside the expected landfall zone, and the tropical depression’s path may still change. It is expected to move toward the Luzon Strait and may pass near northeastern Cagayan before possibly making landfall near the Babuyan Islands tomorrow and is forecast to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday morning.

PAGASA added that Kiyapo may strengthen into a tropical storm tomorrow and could become a severe tropical storm after crossing Northern Luzon.
