Stray Dog Bites Over 20 People in Iloilo City
A stray dog in Barangay Pali-Benedicto, Iloilo City, has bitten more than 20 people, causing fear and concern among local residents.
A stray dog is a dog that has no owner and wanders around freely in streets, neighborhoods, or public places. These dogs may have been abandoned, lost, or born on the streets. Stray dogs usually live without regular food, shelter, or medical care.
Because they are not supervised or vaccinated, they can sometimes pose risks, like biting people or spreading diseases such as rabies.

Recently, a stray dog in Iloilo City bit more than 20 individuals. According to barangay officials, the dog has been roaming around the area for some time, and several of those who got bitten are children.
Residents say they have been dealing with this issue for a while, but despite several attempts, they have been unsuccessful in capturing the dog. The local city veterinarian has promised to take action and rescue the animal soon to prevent more people from getting hurt.
The Department of Health (DOH) has earlier reminded the public that rabies cases in the country are mostly caused by bites from stray dogs. They have strongly advised everyone to stay away from stray animals such as dogs and cats, as they could carry the deadly rabies virus.
The responsibility of vaccinating stray animals falls under the local government units and the Bureau of Animal Industry. Proper vaccination is one of the most effective ways to control the spread of rabies in communities.
To avoid the risk of rabies after getting bitten, the DOH advises people to immediately wash the wound with soap and clean water. Applying antiseptics and going to the nearest animal bite treatment center for proper care are also very important.

Residents in the area hope that the dog will be caught soon, especially for the safety of children and other vulnerable people. The incident serves as a reminder to stay alert around stray animals and to report cases immediately to local authorities.
