Possible School Shooting in Tolosa, Leyte, Halted by Authorities
Authorities successfully prevented a possible shooting at a school in Leyte after receiving information about an alleged mass shooting threat involving a student.
According to Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla, authorities were alerted about a possible attack targeting Tolosa National High School in Leyte. The information was reportedly relayed by Senator Bam Aquino and was immediately verified by concerned agencies.
After conducting an investigation, authorities identified a 14-year-old Grade 10 student as the person allegedly behind the online threat. Investigators found that the student had been using multiple social media accounts and had reportedly been dealing with personal and family-related problems.

Officials emphasized that no shooting took place and that the threat was stopped before any harm could occur. The situation remained an online threat, and police were able to intervene before it developed into something more serious.
Further investigation suggested that the student may have been influenced by recent reports of violence involving schools. Authorities are looking into the possibility that the threat was an attempt to imitate a widely reported incident elsewhere.
The student was brought to the Department of Social Welfare and Development for assessment and interview. After the process was completed, the minor was returned to the care of her family since no actual crime had been carried out.
The incident has raised concerns about the growing impact of online content, mental health struggles, and access to information related to violence. It also highlighted the importance of taking threats seriously, even when they appear only on social media.
Following the incident, officials called for stronger measures regarding firearm ownership and the review of existing regulations related to weapons. Authorities believe that improving safeguards can help prevent future threats and protect students and school communities.
