Jonvic Remulla held a media conference for the Tacloban shooting incident
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla said that because of the information from Senator Bam Aquino, another planned mass shooting in a school in Leyte was prevented.
During a media conference on Thursday, June 25, 2026, Remulla revealed an intelligence tip from Aquino stating that a student was planning to harm other students.
On Monday, June 22, the news that a mass shooting had happened at school, with suspects who are students, aged 14 and 15, shocked the whole country.
Reports stated that three were killed because of that, and one of them was Chris Lorenz Fabian, who sacrificed his life for his classmates when he closed the door of their classroom to prevent the shooters from entering. He even said to his classmates to leave him behind since he was already shot.
Following that traumatic incident, Sec. Jonvic Remulla stated that the shooting incident was supposed to happen again, but this was prevented because of the information from Sen. Bam Aquino.
Based on the report from UNTV News, there was someone who was threatening to shoot or stab the students through a post on social media. When the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Government (CIDG) investigated, it was discovered that the threat came from a 14-year-old female student.
According to the DILG secretary, it appears that the child has family problems and is an avid fan of the online game “gorebox.”
The online game was linked as one of the alleged reasons that pushed the two minors in Tacloban to commit the crime. In a previous report, the authorities have officially banned the said online game in the Philippines.
“It desensitizes young people [to] elements of death, elements of violence, and elements of murder,” Sec. Jonvic Remulla said in a statement. The DILG is pushing for the permanent banning of the online game.
