VP Sara Duterte visited the wake of the Tacloban school shooting victims and assured the families that justice will be served.
The Tacloban school shooting has caused the deaths of three students. The guns were fired by minors, who are now in the custody of the authorities. Due to this fatal incident, more lawmakers, including former House of Representatives Speaker and Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, stressed the need to lower the age of criminal liability.
Moreover, several lawmakers have already condemned the incident last Monday, and previously, Romualdez assured that his office has been coordinating with local authorities and government agencies to determine what kind of help they can be provide to the families affected by the shooting incident.
At the crime scene, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Col. Allen Rae Co said that 34 cartridges were recovered.
As the families are grieving their sudden loss, Vice President Sara Duterte went to the wake to personally extend her condolences to the bereaved families. She offered them comfort and expressed her sympathy over the tragic and heartbreaking loss.
The vice president also assured the victims’ families that steps would be taken to pursue justice for those affected by the shooting.
According to police, three teenagers were killed and 20 others were injured after two students opened fire at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, Leyte, on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, authorities are looking into possible family-related issues involving the 14-year-old suspect in the Tacloban school shooting. Investigators said their findings indicate that the teenager had been exposed to ongoing conflicts within his family.
“During the investigation, it was found out na hindi broken family itong dalawang CICL (child in conflict with the law). However, sa isang CICL, there is an information na may hindi magandang samahan within the family,” said LtCol. Analiza Armeza, chief of the Public Information Office of Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8).
However, investigators have yet to gather enough information to determine the exact nature of the conflicts or whether the child was directly involved in them.
