DepEd Region 8 condemned the recent Tacloban City shooting incident
Department of Education (DepEd) Regional Office 8 released a statement on the heartbreaking shooting incident in a school in Tacloban City.
On the morning of June 22, 2026, the San Jose National High School in Tacloban was stirred with a horrifying incident when two male students started their shooting spree.
Initial reports stated that at least three students were killed, while five were injured. These numbers could increase as the story develops.
A recent update stated that the two suspects had already been caught. Following the shooting incident, based on the report from Abante News Online, the DepEd Regional Office expressed concern over the horrifying incident that claimed the lives of innocent students.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this unfortunate incident, particularly the learners, personnel, and families who may have experienced fear, trauma, or distress as a result of the situation,” DepEd Regional Director Salustiano Jimenez expressed.
Jimenez stated that right after they received this heartbreaking news, his office immediately coordinated with the Philippine National Police (PNP), Schools Division Office of Tacloban City, and school administration to ensure the safety and security of everyone in the educational institution.
The DepEd Region 8 also coordinated with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and other agencies to provide necessary help and psychosocial support services to everyone who was affected by the incident, whether students or school personnel.
Jimenez also stated that they are leaving the details of the incidents to the PNP for further investigation, and asked the public not to share unverified information.
“The safety, security, and well-being of our learners and personnel remain our highest priority. DepEd Regional Office VIII is committed to providing the necessary support to the affected school community and to working closely with partner agencies to ensure that schools remain safe, secure, and conducive spaces for learning,” the DepEd Regional Director said about the Tacloban City shooting incident.
