Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Now in The Hague, Netherlands
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President was asked about the recent filing of an impeachment complaint against Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte remains detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands. His children and their other family members and relatives are taking turns in visiting the former President since March 2025.
Former Pres. Duterte was arrested by the Philippine authorities last March 11, 2025. Amid the criticisms from the Duterte supporters, Malacañang claimed that the government acted on the arrest in lieu of its commitment with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).
On the same day of his arrest, Duterte was flown out of the country for the transfer of his custody to the ICC. His camp appealed for the interim release of the 80-year-old former President but the foreign court junked the plea. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte believes that Marcos Jr. allegedly committed an impeachable offense over the turn of events.
The transfer of the custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is one of the grounds cited in the impeachment complaint that was recently filed against Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The Chief Executive is accused of alleged betrayal of public trust. The complaint was filed before the Office of the Secretary General of the House of Representatives.
Aside from the alleged surrender of Duterte to the foreign court, the other grounds cited include the supposed use of illegal drugs by Marcos Jr. as claimed by his very own sister, Senator Imee Marcos, and his alleged flood control corruption. He was implicated by former House Budget Appropriations Committee chairman Zaldy Co in the flood control mess.
According to Co, Marcos Jr. and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez allegedly masterminded a P100-billion insertion in the 2025 national budget. He also claimed that the President and the former Speaker supposedly received a P56-billion kickback from the projects of the government.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte who is currently in The Hague, Netherlands was asked about the impeachment complaint that was recently filed against Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Based on News5, the Vice President is speechless over the matter for now.
“Sa ngayon wala pa. Hintayin natin ang mga susunod na mga araw kung mayroon akong reaction,” Duterte said based on the post.
There are also impeachment talks against the Vice President amid the approaching expiration of the ban on the filing of impeachment raps against her. According to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, the filing of a fresh impeachment complaint against her is expected and is allegedly “all about money”.
