Impeachment Complaint Filed vs. Marcos Jr. Before the House Secretary General’s Office

MARCOS JR. – An impeachment complaint was filed against the President over the alleged betrayal of public trust based on several grounds including the alleged surrender of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The current administration was heavily criticized over the arrest and the transfer of custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte last March 2025. The former President was arrested by the Philippine authorities who assisted the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).

Then, Malacañang defended Marcos Jr. saying he did not commit betrayal of public trust as the government only did its job in lieu of its commitment with the Interpol. The President also claimed that the issue was already existing when he came into the picture.

Recently, an impeachment complaint was filed against Marcos Jr. and the alleged “surrender” of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was mentioned as one of the grounds over the President’s alleged betrayal of public trust. The impeachment rap was filed before the Office of the Secretary General of the House of Representatives.

Deputy Minority Leader at Pusong Pinoy Party-list Rep. Jett Nisay endorsed the impeachment complaint against Marcos Jr. According to News5, another ground cited over the alleged betrayal of public trust by Marcos Jr. was the non-veto of the unprogrammed appropriations in the 2026 national budget.

It was last January 5 when the President signed the 2026 national budget amounting to P6.79 trillion. Despite the junking of 7 out of 10 unprogrammed funds in the budget, Mamamayang Liberal Partylist Representative leila de Lima and House Senior Deputy Minority Leader Rep. Edgar Erice filed a petition against the unprogrammed funds in the 2026 national budget.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos junked the following unprogrammed funds:

  • Government Counterpart for Certain Foreign-Assisted Projects: P35.77 billion
  • Budgetary Support for Government Owned and Controlled Corporations: P6.895 billion
  • Insurance of Government Assets and Interests: P2 billion
  • Prior Years’ Local Government Unit Shares: P14.623 million
  • RACE Program (Automotive Industry Competitiveness): P250 million
  • CARS Program (Automotive Industry Support): P4.32 billion
  • Payment of Personnel Services Requirements: P43.245 billion

Furthermore, based on the post, also among the grounds cited in the impeachment complaint against Marcos Jr. is the alleged corruption in the flood control projects funded by the government and his alleged illegal drug use.

Recently, the Department of Justice confirmed that the alleged “bagman” of Pres. Bongbong Marcos has returned to his work in DOJ.
