Uwan’s Wrath Incoming? PAGASA Eyes Signal No. 5 as Super Typhoon Nears the Philippines
UWAN – As Super Typhoon Uwan barrels toward the Philippine Area of Responsibility, PAGASA cautions that parts of Luzon and Visayas may soon face Signal No. 5 warnings.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a warning that Tropical Storm Fung-Wong, which will be called “Uwan” upon entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), could strengthen into a super typhoon, potentially leading to the declaration of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5 in certain regions.
PAGASA stated that there is a significant chance the storm will reach Signal No. 5 once it starts affecting the country. “The highest possible Wind Signal for the current forecast scenario is Wind Signal No. 5. Deterioration of weather condition may begin on Sunday (09 November),” the agency said.

In its 11 p.m. bulletin released on Thursday, November 6, PAGASA reported that the tropical storm was located 1,550 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao, still outside the PAR. The system currently carries maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour, gusts of up to 105 kilometers per hour, and is moving northwestward at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour.
According to PAGASA, the tropical storm is expected to enter the PAR by Friday night, November 7, or early Saturday, November 8, when it will officially be named Uwan. Forecasters predict that it could rapidly intensify into a super typhoon as it nears the Philippine landmass.
The weather bureau is likely to start raising wind signals in eastern Luzon and some parts of Samar by today or tomorrow morning. PAGASA also warned that “Potentially life-threatening stormy conditions may occur over Northern Luzon and portions of Central Luzon on Monday (10 November) and Tuesday (11 November).”
“There is also a potential for high storm surge risk and related coastal flooding, especially in Northern Luzon and the east coast of Central Luzon. Storm surge warnings may be issued as early as Saturday,” the agency added.

As the country prepares for the possible impact of Super Typhoon Uwan, government agencies are reminding the public to take precautionary measures, stay informed through official weather updates, and be ready for possible evacuation orders in areas at risk of flooding or strong winds.
