Pres. Bongbong Marcos Speaks on National Budget for 2026
BONGBONG MARCOS – The President claimed that the Philippines may be able to have “savings” from the 2026 national budget.
The Senate and the House of Representatives resume the budget hearings for the Philippines’ fund for 2026. The National Expenditure Program or more popularly called as NEP is asking for a P6.7 trillion budget. The Confidential and Intelligence Funds or CIF for next year is at P10.77 billion with the office of Marcos Jr. having the lion’s share.

While Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s office is not asking for any confidential funds for 2026, the office of Pres. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos is asking for a P4.5 billion confidential and intelligence funds for next year. The President previously called on the lawmakers to come up with a clean budget for next year.
The government was massively criticized amid the supposed multi-billion flood control corruption in the Philippines. Previously, Senate Pres. Tito Sotto assured the public that he and House Speaker Bojie Dy will make sure to come up with a cleaner budget for next year amid the flood control issue.

Both the Senate and the House of Representatives had change of leaderships amid the flood control issue. The upper chamber was previously led by Senator Chiz Escudero while the lower chamber was led by presidential cousin and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez. Both of them were tagged in the flood control mess.

Recently, following the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit that was held in South Korea, Pres. Bongbong Marcos spoke about the 2026 national budget. Based on a report on GMA News, the Chief Executive expects savings from next year’s budget.
“Even now, upon resumption of the budget hearings, marami nang nakita in both Houses, in both the House of Representatives and the Senate na magkakaroon pa tayo ng savings,” Marcos Jr. said.

Furthermore, based on the report, Pres. Bongbong Marcos added that it is allegedly possible to “write good, clean budget”. Before heading to the said event in South Korea, the President ordered the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to cut the materials costs of its project by up tp 50%.
Previously, amid the budget scrutiny, the office of Marcos Jr. is urged to explain his confidential funds for 2026.
