CLAIRE CASTRO – The MalacaƱang press Officer broke her silence on the rumors that she will allegedly be appointed as the next chief of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The position of the DOJ secretary is set to be vacant following the appointment of outgoing Justice Sec. Boying Remulla as Ombudsman by President Bongbong Marcos. There were a total of 17 applicants and seven of them made it to the shortlist of the Judiciary and Bar Council or JBC.

The JBC submitted the shortlist for the Ombudsman applicants to Marcos Jr. It is the sitting president who decides on who will be the next chief graft buster in the country. Remulla’s appointment gather different reactions from the Filipino people.

Amid the criticisms against his appointment, incoming Ombudsman Boying Remulla admitted that he sees prosecution of those who deserve it under his lead as the chief graft buster. According to him, there is no sacred cow for him and his record will speak for itself.

Remulla stressed his belief that no other justice secretary has allegedly sent more powerful individuals to jail than him. With the position of the DOJ chief set to be vacant soon, there are rumors that MalacaƱang press undersecretary Claire Castro might allegedly be appointed to lead the justice department.

Aside from Remulla, Castro is also one of the few members of the Marcos Jr. Cabinet who were retained in their position following his call for the courtesy resignation of all his Cabinet secretaries. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, she denied the recent rumors saying Pres. Bongbong Marcos has yet to decide on who will replace Remulla as the DOJ chief.

ā€œHindi po natin alam kung saan nagsimula yan so wala pong katotohanan yan. Wala pang naibibigay na detalye,” the Palace official said.

Atty. Claire Castro was pressed further with a question asking about her willingness to accept the offer if she will be offered to be the next DOJ chief. Based on the report, she refused to respond to it.

ā€œHypothetical question, I cannot answer,” Castro said.

Currently, following his controversial appointment with countless criticisms surrounding it, incoming Ombudsman Boying Remulla confirmed that he will open and study the complaints filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
