Hardworking Student Receives P220,000 Scholarship for His Efforts
A hardworking student received P220,000 worth of scholarship from the Rizal Provincial Government for his efforts.
Recently, a young student named Angelo C. Dela Cruz from Lores Elementary School was given the award last Monday, August 4, for being an outstanding student with a big heart and an inspiring story.
Dela Cruz received the “Natatanging Mag-aaral Award” from the Rizal Provincial Government, along with a scholarship worth P220,000.
Angelo is the second among four siblings. His father works part-time as a security guard and construction worker, while his mother, a housewife, takes side jobs as a laundrywoman just to help with their daily needs.
Despite their efforts, the family still struggles financially, especially after a recent accident involving their youngest child, which added more pressure to their already tight situation.
At a young age, Angelo stepped up to help his family. He sells donuts, collects plastic bottles, metal, and other recyclables in their neighborhood to earn even a little money. On weekends, instead of playing, he chooses to work. He even serves as a parking boy at a resort during the evenings.
The young man wanted to help pay for his younger sibling’s medical needs and support his uncle who stopped going out because of bullying due to his goiter.
Despite all this, Angelo continues to shine in school. He is a consistent achiever and never falls behind in his studies. His story moved Mayor Jun Ynares and the local government, prompting them to assist his sibling and uncle with medical care, even after their hospital discharge.
As part of the award, Angelo will receive P60,000 from elementary to senior high school, and another P160,000 for four years of college, depending on his chosen course. The award honors not just academic excellence, but also dedication and love for family.
