Cebu Nursing Student Who Helped Wounded Vendor Earns Scholarship

The nursing student identified as Angyl Faith Ababat earned a scholarship after helping a wounded vendor in Cebu.

Earlier this week, a lady vendor named Bernadeta Zamora suffered severe wounds after her live-in partner named Edwin Salazar slashed her neck along Plaridel Street, downtown Cebu City.

The female victim suffered serious wounds and was left bleeding due to the incident. The suspect identified as Edwin Salazar quickly run away to escape the authorities after committing the crime.

Angyl Faith Ababat, a second-year nursing student studying at the University of Cebu-Banilad campus took the initiative to help the vendor. She applied first aid and the necessary medical procedure to stop the bleeding.

At first, she was hesitant to help since there are some medical students on the scene but no one responded. The latter decided to respond to save the victim.

Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Col. Ireneo Dalogdog recognized Ababat’s act of heroism. The police station plans to give Angyl a plaque of appreciation and make her a role model.

Recently, the University of Cebu awarded Ababat with a scholarship for helping the mango vendor. The university also made the nursing student a role model because of her heroic act.

“So, we decided to make Angyl Fayth as our model for a marketing poster this month. Angyl showed exceptional act of kindness during the neck-slashing incident last Monday, January 30.

Good job Angyl, you serve as good example of a true UCnian that cares. You’re a real ‘HERO’. The whole University of Cebu community is so proud of you!

From a role model, Now you are a real MODEL!,” UC wrote.
