Vic Sotto Camp Believes “Justice Will Soon Be Served” In Case Versus Darryl Yap

The camp of Vic Sotto reacted to the charges versus Darryl Yap.

Veteran actor and TV host Vic Sotto claimed early victory in a cyber libel case against film director Darryl Yap, and his camp has this latest statement.

The trailer of the Pepsi Paloma film directed by Darryl Yap has become viral and controversial because of the clear mention of Vic Sotto’s name. Many people were shocked by the accusation that came with it, and this prompted the veteran actor to do something about it.

Sotto filed 19 counts of cyber libel against Yap following the teaser release. This stemmed from the teaser that was described as “malicious and defamatory statements”. He sought the issuance of a writ of habeas data last January 7 and was granted by the court. This ordered Yap to take down or rectify portions of the teaser that Sotto’s camp contested.

Previously, the Office of the City Prosecutor accused Yap of cyber libel under Articles 353 and 355 of the Revised Penal Code, violating Republic Act 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. The resolution stated that the actor was exposed to “public contempt, hatred, dishonor, or ridicule, or causing the latter’s reputation to be tarnished.”

Yap immediately posted bail of Php 20,000.00, which prompted the RTC to “recall and set aside” the warrant.

With this latest news, the camp of Sotto reacted, and they thanked the court for issuing a warrant of arrest against Yap. This move indicated that the Court had found probable cause in the cases, and while Yap was on his provisional liberty, they believed that justice would soon be served.

It added, “Our justice system is working and we will continue to trust in the system. We believe that Justice will soon be served. In the meantime, we cannot comment on the merits of the case. We respect the court and we trust that it will render a fair decision.”
