In the Philippines, one of the biggest state-run social insurance institutions with millions of members across the nation is the Social Security System. More popularly called SSS, it also has members in the different countries across the globe.

To maintain an active and updated account with the Social Security System, the SSS members submit a monthly contribution. The monthly contribution rates are based on the SSS Contribution Table 2023.

An updated account may qualify a member to the SSS loans as well as the SSS benefits 2023. Below, you can check the list of the benefits that members of the state-run social insurance institution may claim.

SSS Unemployment Benefit 2023

The Social Security System or SSS Unemployment Benefit 2023 was designed for members who involuntarily lost their job or got separated from employment. The job loss may be a result of the abolition of the office or position. The member must be:

  • an active member of the Social Security System before the involuntary separation from work
  • at least 18 years of age but not over 60 years old
  • have posted at least 36 monthly contributions within the last 12 months prior to losing job
  • have not received any other SSS benefit
  • have no unsettled SSS Unemployment Benefit within the last three (3) years before the date of the current unemployment started

To qualify to file a claim, the member must have not committed any of the following:

  • Serious misconduct or violation of the company’s rules and regulations
  • Willful disobedience of legal orders from the employer or company
  • Gross and habitual neglect of duties
  • Voluntary resignation
  • Willful breach of trust or commission of dishonesty
  • Commission of crime or offense
SSS Disability Benefit 2023

The Social Security System also has the SSS Disability Benefit 2023 in case a qualified member faces partial or permanent disability. To qualify, the member must have:

  • have paid a total of at least 36 monthly contributions prior to the semester of the disability
  • have paid at least one (1) month of contribution before the semester of the disability
SSS Sickness Benefit 2023

In times of sickness that results to absence from work, the SSS members may also turn to the SSS Sickness Benefit 2023. Here is a list of the eligibility criteria in filing a claim:

  • sick or injured and is unable to report to work
  • confined at a hospital or at home for at least four (4) days
  • paid at least three (3) months of contributions within the 12-month period immediately before the semester of sickness or injury
  • used up all company sick leaves with pay for the current year
  • duly notified his or her employer
SSS Maternity Benefit 2023

When a female member of the Social Security System gets pregnant, she may turn to the SSS Maternity Benefit 2023 when childbirth comes. It provides a financial assistance during the weeks when the member is on a work leave due to giving birth. She must have:

  • paid at least three (3) months of contributions within the 12-month period immediately before the semester of childbirth or emergency termination of pregnancy;
  • if employed, the member must have notified the employer about the pregnancy; or
  • if self-employed, separated from employment, or an OFW, the member must have notified the SSS about the pregnancy.
SSS Death Benefit 2023

When a member of the Social Security System, his/her family may turn to the SSS Death Benefit 2023 for a monthly pension or a lump sum money. To qualify for the benefit offer, the deceased SSS member must have paid a total of at least 36 monthly contributions prior to the semester of death.

SSS Funeral Benefit 2023

Aside from the Death Benefit, the family of the deceased SSS member may also file a claim for the SSS Funeral Benefit 2023. It may also be claimed by anyone who has proofs that he/she was the one who spent for the funeral expenses in the burial of the deceased SSS member.
