Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Davao Occidental, August 28, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.6 magnitude quake in Davao Occidental today, August 28, 2023.

Following the 5.1 magnitude earthquake in Oriental Mindoro last week, another significant quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. The quake hit Davao Occidental. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 5.1.

The earthquake today that struck Davao Occidental, Monday, August 28, 2023, at 05:53 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Balut Island in Sarangani.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Occidental was located at 02.45°North, 126.29°East – 342 km South 16° East of Balut Island. It had a depth of focus of 032 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. As of this writing, no instrumental intensity was recorded as well.
