PAGASA Says Habagat to Bring Scattered Rain & Thunderstorm Over Most Parts of PH

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau has reported that the habagat will bring scattered rain and thunderstorms over most parts of the country.

On Thursday (August 17, 2023), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released the latest weather update for the country. The southwest monsoon will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA reported that the southwest monsoon will bring cloudy skies, scattered rain, and thunderstorms over Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

“Patuloy pa rin ang pag-ulan sa malaking bahagi ng ating bansa dulot pa rin ng habagat o southwest monsoon, partikular sa may mga western sections ng southern Luzon, Visayas, at Mindanao,” Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja said.

The habagat will bring cloudy weather conditions with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, BARMM, Palawan, and Southern Leyte. Possible flooding or landslides are expected in these areas due to moderate to heavy rains at times.

The monsoon and localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of Visayas, Metro Manila, and the rest of the country.

“Sa natitirang bahagi ng Luzon, kabilang na ang Metro Manila, magiging maganda ang panahon, may mga pagkakataon na magiging maaraw, ngunit madalas ay bahagyang maulap ang kalangitan,” he added.

Severe thunderstorms may cause possible flash floods and landslides in the affected areas, according to the weather agency.
