Female Artist Earns Praises Online After Making ‘Piso’ Leaf Art
A female artist created ‘Piso’ leaf art to honor the 162nd birth anniversary of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal.
In celebration of the 162nd birth anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal, an artist named MM Dacanay, 25, from Biñan City, Laguna, created a leaf art resembling a one-peso coin as a tribute to the national hero.
Dacanay shared that she meticulously carved the likeness of Rizal’s image on a jackfruit leaf, imitating the design found on the one-peso coin. “Para maiba naman po [‘yung piso], normal ko lang po kasing nauukit ‘yung portrait ni Dr Jose Rizal,” explained Dacanay.
Due to the intricate details involved in replicating the design of the coin, Dacanay dedicated four hours to complete her masterpiece. The process required patience, precision, and a deep appreciation for the significance of Rizal’s contributions to Philippine history.
Leaf art has become a popular medium for showcasing creativity and paying homage to esteemed figures. Dacanay’s unique choice to depict Rizal’s image on a leaf adds a touch of nature to the tribute, symbolizing the enduring connection between the national hero and the land he loved.
