Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Eastern Samar, May 23, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.4 magnitude quake in San Julian, Eastern Samar today, Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Eastern Samar. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.4.

The earthquake that struck Eastern Samar, today, Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 06:02 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit San Julian.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Eastern Samar was located at 11.83°North, 125.98°East – 058 km North 82° East of San Julian. It had a depth of focus of 015 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording bureau, no intensity was felt nor recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. No instrumental intensities were recorded as well.
